This weekend marks the end of Summerfest 2010, but there's still plenty of great live music and entertainment, festival food and, of course, beer on hand now through Sunday. So, get your fill before the Big Gig bids farewell for another year.
For those of you about to flock to Summerfest today, here are my picks for Day 9 of the Big Gig:
Brief Candles (6 p.m.,Cascio Interstate Groove Stage)
It’s been an eternity since Milwaukee’s Brief Candles released the excellent They Live We Sleep in 2006, but long-suffering fans were treated to a morsel from the group’s long-in-the-works follow-up in the form of last year’s “Sink Or Swim”/”Pieces Of Hate” 7-inch. Both songs demonstrated that the band’s way with lush guitarscapes and airy vocals reminiscent of Ride, Swervedriver, and the ’80s and ’90s 4AD Records scene hasn’t dulled over time.
Sample their sound here.
Worrier (9 p.m., Cascio Interstate Groove Stage)
Milwaukee band Worrier sure has one foot in the crowded genre of danceable post-punk, with its prickly, hyper drums and basslines and weirdly yelped vocals, but there’s also something more delicate at work here. The band’s chirp-toned guitars, for one, help to lighten up these claustrophobic-feeling tunes with spaced-out melodies.
Check them out here.
Scorpions (10 p.m., Harley-Davidson Roadhouse)
Scorpions’ mixture of arena-rock anthems (“Rock You Like A Hurricane”) and raise-your-lighter ballads (“Winds Of Change”) has sustained it for more than 30 years and 20 albums. The German band is nowhere near what it used to be commercially, but 2004's Unbreakable and 2007's Humanity Hour, Vol. 1 seemed to re-energize the group, landing it headlining gigs at sizable venues.

But don't let me have all the fun; feel free to chime in and tell our readers whom you’re gearing up to see at Summerfest today. Share your favs in the comments section.
